My Child and I love Fishers Pointe Cooperative Preschool because…

The parent gets inside the classroom on a regular basis to share in the beginning learning years with their child. It is so special and invaluable to observe first hand your child learning, socializing, and growing during their preschool years. I see it as a bridge where we are helping our child cross over into the grade school years where we won’t be in the classroom regularly. Fishers Pointe is a special place where you begin your involvement in your child’s lifelong work of learning!!!
We enjoy having the chance to share and experience play based learning. Thank you Fishers Pointe for giving us this opportunity!
My name is Carrie Hower and I am a first grade teacher with Hamilton Southeastern Schools, teaching first grade at New Britton Elementary. I am happy to say that I am very lucky to have two former students from Fishers Pointe Co-op, Miss Charlize and Miss Ally in my classroom this year. The girls are wonderful to have in class! They are very polite and well rounded individuals, as well as outstanding in their academic records. In fact, both girls are reading at a beginning second grade level. That is fantastic for first grade! The knowledge and the skills they knew coming into our school system allowed them to flourish in our school environment. I look forward to seeing them grow into successful second graders!
The teachers at Fishers Pointe Co-op are wonderful. They are very experienced, sensitive, nurturing and creative. They are also wonderful listeners. The parents here have direct input in their child’s education. Thanks for all of the fun, the field trips and enrichment activities.
I was very impressed with Fishers Pointe and the whole co-op philosophy. It was exactly what I was looking for. I have had many conversations about it with my other teacher friends -- many of whom teach Kindergarten. Many of them are now looking for Cooperative preschools in their area.

My main area of focus was obviously reading -- so let me tell you what I saw with some of my students who had attended academic preschools. They had a lot of item knowledge about reading (they knew their letters, letter sounds, they knew a lot of sight words), but they didn't LOVE reading, they didn't know how to talk about reading, they didn't really take the time to think about stories. These kids seemed to be reading to just get through the words -- it was about how fast they read, or how many words they knew, or how hard the books were that they were reading -- rather than just enjoying the story and taking the time to talk about it. These students were harder to teach because I had to teach them how to slow down and think. If kids already know how to ask questions and think while they read (which I think Fishers Pointe is preparing them to do) -- it's easy to teach them letters, words, sounds, etc. I think the school is amazing. I am confident that my child’s experience here will help him be prepared for Kindergarten.
I love FPCP because during the first weeks of Kindergarten my child would say Kindergarten is nothing like co-op. This told me that her experience with cooperative preschool was priceless. Being degreed in education with an endorsement in Kindergarten made choosing an appropriate preschool very challenging for me. When I walked into FPCP my challenges were all met under one roof. My child was receiving great socialization skills and at the same time exploring play and her classroom at her own pace. This was important to me that my child was learning through play and I was right by her side seeing the light bulb go on in her head. Adult interaction in the classroom has encouraged my child's self esteem and helped her learn by other adults. Now she is a successful 1st grader closing in on 2nd grade. My other daughter is closing in on her koala year and quickly approaching her last year of co-op. I am saddened but proud of the experience that my family has had at FPCP. My family has made friends that will last a lifetime. Thank you FPCP for 6 great years!!!
"I liked the themes in the classroom like space and beach week. Also, I liked the space ship out of the giant refrigerator box and the air tanks made of milk jugs. Beach week was fun with the sand. I also liked having my mom in the classroom with me."

My children and I love FPCP because being a part of the school has allowed me to see my children learn and grow. I have gotten to see how they interact with their peers; therefore, allowing me to reinforce this at home. I have seen them learn about topics I would not have thought to introduce them to, such as planets. My children and I have started reading books that go along with what they are learning at preschool. Being part of FPCP has allowed me to be an integral part of my children's learning!
Fishers Pointe Co-op has given my children an excellent foundation and preparation for elementary school. The co-op has also made me realize how precious time is. Kids grow up so fast, I’m so happy I have had so many wonderful experiences with my kids in their co-op school.
The co-op has really made the transition from home to school very comfortable for me and my children. With my first child, I was nervous about sending him to preschool. I loved the fact that I could participate in his classroom and be with him on a regular basis. He has such a love for learning. I can’t thank Fishers Pointe enough.
I love the sense of community at Fishers Pointe. That sense of community develops throughout the school year as we adults work together for the benefit of our children. My child has made many friends and I have made many friends. It has been so rewarding seeing my daughter develop strong bonds to her teacher, her classmates and their parents. It’s wonderful to know that she has all of these relationships in her life.
Kids get to be kids here. Each child is accepted as an individual and everything done here is age appropriate. I’ve seen my child grow in so many ways. It’s been a positive experience for my entire family. I even get to be a kid again when I participate in the classroom. My child and I can both get messy and have fun, learning new things together.
